This document represents a binding agreement between Virginia Rabbit (VRI), related companies, VRI staff, and the new owner(s) as listed above. By signature below the new owners certify that they have read all of the following items and are compliant with all listed requirements further contracting to the terms of the rabbit's(s) care moving forward. Furthermore, the new owner(s) understand that any litigation issues, if presented to acourt of law, will be handled in the city of Chesapeake, Virginia and that the owner(s) will be responsible for all court related costs. Finally, VRI will seek possession of "said" animal during any enforcement effort.

VRI Agrees to:

  • Offer an animal that has been altered and seen by a licensed exotics veterinary specializing in rabbit care, prior to placement
  • Disclose all facts known about the animal, understanding that these are rescued animals
  • Provide food needed for 30-days in addition to appropriate feeding instructions
  • Provide 24/7 phone contact number to support the new owner(s) and provide emergency assistance

New Owner(s) Agrees to/that:

  • No individual residing in the home has ever been convicted of animal neglect or cruelty in any local, state or national jurisdiction, participated in lab animal experiments, consumed rabbits as a food source, shown rabbits or has been involved with 4-H rabbit projects, surrendered any animal of any breed to an animal shelter or any similar agency for any reason, breeds or has been involved in animal sales
  • The direct responsibility for this rabbit will be that of an adult, assisted by others in the home
  • They have been provided with complete details about the animal, its current health, and any known medical or behavioral issues
  • Understand that any and all information and recommendations provided now by any VRI individuals/associates are based on personal research and hands-on experiences but are not to be considered equal to that of a licensed rabbit veterinarian
  • Provide all food, water, medical care, and interior-only living location for the animal for the remainder of its natural life
  • Provide a constant mental stimulation using toys, exercise, and social interaction daily
  • If the animal is to be caged it will be inside a climate controlled area of the home and released from the cage inside the house not less that 3-hours each day for a supervised play time. Outside play time is also permitted but must be constantly supervised and in an area void of yard chemicals and poisonous vegetation
  • Provide complete protection for the animal against, but not limited to, other animals and children in the home
  • Surrender the animal back to VRI should any health care issue arise within the first 30-days of placement for immediate care by VRI and/or a licensed exotics veterinarian
  • Provide details on any medical issues taking place after 30-days for a period no longer than 60-days
  • Notify VRI if the animal dies within one (1) year after adoption and provide either a necropsy report or the body of the animal if death occurs within the first 30-days
  • Understand that VRI and its related companies are not responsible for behavioral actions of the rabbit
  • Provide a non-refundable 50.00 tax deductible donation which will be donated to a not for profit rabbit rescue organization to use as they see fit
  • Return the animal to VRI if for any reason the rabbit cannot be properly cared for
