This document represents a binding agreement between Virginia Rabbit Inc.(VRI), related companies, VRI staff and the "Foster Care Provider" as listed above. By signature below the "Foster Care Provider" certifies that they have read all items below and are compliant with listed requirements. Due to the "Foster Nature" of this agreement all parties must understand all criteria listed below.

Foster Care Situation/Purpose:

  Animal placed for space issues at main shelter 
  Animal placed due to older age, related to challenges in placement opportunities 
  Animal placed due to long term medical issues, not being adoptable at this time 
  Animal placed with approved VRI foster specialist on specific breed as noted below 
  Animal placed with approved VRI foster for behavior and socialization training 


VRI Agrees to:

  • Provide an animal that has been altered and seen by a licensed veterinary doctor specializing in rabbit care, unless noted
  • Provide all hay and pellets required for animal's care
  • Provide 24/7 phone number to provide support and emergency assistance when needed
  • Provide for all medical expenses with prior approval through VRI at Pet Care Veterinary Hospital, 5201 Virginia Beach Boulevard, Virginia Beach, Virginia
  • Allow first right of adoption to "Foster Care Provider" with senior VRI approval
  • Take the animal back at anytime for any reason

Foster Care Provider Agrees to/that:

  • No individual residing in the home has ever been convicted of animal neglect or cruelty in any local, state or national jurisdiction, participated in lab animal experiments, consumed rabbits as a food source, shown rabbits or has been involved with 4-H rabbit projects, surrendered any animal of any breed to an animal shelter or any similar agency for any reason, breeds or has been involved in animal sales
  • The direct responsibility for this rabbit is that of the VRI "Foster Care Provider", assisted by others in the home
  • They have been provided with complete details about the animal, its current health condition and any known behavioral issues
  • Provide a constant level of mental stimulation with toys, exercise and social interaction on a daily basis
  • If the animal is to be caged, it will be inside a climate controlled area of the home and released inside not less that 3-hours each day for a supervised play time. Outside play time is also permitted but to be supervised and in an area void of yard chemicals and poisonous vegetation
  • Provide complete protection for the animal against, but not limited to, other animals and children in the home
  • Surrender the animal back to VRI without hesitation upon request from VRI senior staff
  • Notify VRI if the animal dies and immediately proide body of the animal to VRI
  • Understand that VRI and its related companies are not responsible for behavioral actions of the rabbit
  • Return the animal to VRI if for any reason the rabbit cannot be properly cared for
